About Sylvania Waters OSHC

We often get asked. What is a Vacation Care, OSHC, OOSH or BASC? In simple terms, we are a childcare centre that caters to older aged children who are enrolled in primary school.

Sylvania Waters OSHC offers high quality care for children in Sylvania and surrounding suburbs including Sylvania Waters, Blakehurst and even Cronulla. Our service is located in Sylvania Public School and operates during school holidays and pupil free days. We welcome all primary school aged children including home schooled children. You don’t have to be enroled in Sylvania Public School to enjoy our offerings.

At Sylvania Waters OSHC, we prioritise a child-centered approach with core values of kindness, adventure, safety and support.

Our philosophy is based on the belief that all children are curious and kind beings. We nurture this innate curiosity by providing a safe, stimulating environment where exploration and creativity flourish. We honour each child’s unique strengths, fostering a sense of belonging, respect and empathy for others. Through meaningful connections, we encourage confidence and resilience.

our Philosophy and mission

Our philosophy is that every child is naturally curious, capable, and kind. We believe children thrive in environments where they feel safe, valued, and supported, and where their individuality, strengths, and interests are respected.

As an Outside School Hours Care (OOSH) service, our practice is guided primarily by the My Time, Our Place Framework, which recognises the importance of play, leisure, and child-led experiences in supporting children’s wellbeing, development, and sense of belonging. We provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that supports exploration, creativity, relaxation, and meaningful social connections.

We also recognise that some children attending our service are younger and enrolled in preparatory programs. For these children, our practice is additionally informed by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), ensuring continuity of learning and development across early childhood and school-age settings.

We foster a strong sense of belonging through respectful and responsive relationships with children, families, educators, schools, and the wider community. We promote confidence, resilience, independence, and wellbeing by encouraging children to make choices, take appropriate risks, and engage in experiences that support their interests and emerging capabilities.

Through reflective practice, inclusive approaches, and intentional support, we are committed to providing high-quality care that supports every child’s learning, wellbeing, and development in line with the principles of the National Quality Framework.
